It amazes me how that since I have launched this “Fearless Treasures” blog I have heard numerous messages in church, on television, and on radio on the subject of fearlessness. One of the best was this past Sunday at our church (Genesis People) in McKinney TX when a guest preacher, Dr. Dennis Burke, came to deliver to us the Word of God that had been laid on his heart. Our pastor, Charlie Tuttle, had heard him on a Sunday morning television program while he was with his wife, Sherri (who has recently gone to be with the Lord in Heaven), while she was undergoing cancer treatment. God lead him to look up Dr. Burke and invite him to preach to us. Thankfully, he agreed.
His message began by telling about how he had read about how the trapeze performers at the circuses were trained to be fearless. By first training close to the ground and then taken up high only to learn how to fall over and over again into the nets below they learned to trust that they would be okay. Then he went on to trace the discipleship of Peter with Jesus and how that over and over again he fell and yet God in his infinite mercy was there to catch him like the net below the trapeze apprentice. It is so worth your time to listen to this message below!
Since listening to this message I have been thinking a lot about all of the “falls” in my own life. Even over the last 24 hours, I have fallen again by worrying, stressing, striving, doubting, etc. I have these “high” hopes and have gotten depressed when things do not move along as quickly as I would like.
Then my daughter Desire’ reminded me, in the midst of her own struggles when she said, “Don’t give up on it. Remember if it gives you any sort of joy and happiness you need to hold on to it. It will work out, just don’t set your goals too high for too fast. It will all work out.” This morning she posted the words to a song on Facebook called
Wow! God has woven the people into my life into the hammock-like net beneath me to catch me when I fall. My daughter did not shame me like hitting a concrete floor. She absorbed my fall and cradled me in her loving inspiring encouragement. That is what gave me the courage to write yet another post. One of these days this blog will do the daring flips in the air that will draw and awe a crowd. But for now, I will just be content to either swing a few feet from the ground or practice falling some more.
Who has God used in your life to catch you when you fall? Who have you caught time and time again that does now “fly through the air with the greatest of ease”. Please feel free to comment in the column on the left and give them a shout out and a cheer, then share this story and video message with them.
I look forward to hearing from you. Until then….
